We like to be different at Bunaken Divers and personal attention everything from setting up our guests equipment before each dive to carefully planning each dive to get the best experience possible from each individual dive is part of our commitment to service.

So, whether you’re a first-time snorkeler or an experienced scuba diver with thousands of dives your safety and enjoyment is our priority.

Bunaken Manado Tua National Marine Park with its crystal-blue water averaging an amazing 28°C year-round is perfect any time to discover our forest-like coral gardens teeming with vibrant marine life. For guests who do not dive or snorkel, or for the diver who wants some above water excitement there’s our early morning wild Dolphin tour to see hundreds of Dolphins, Minahasa Highland & Mahawu Volcano tour, Tangkoko Jungle Reserve tour, and trekking up to the crater of the exciting Lokon Volcano. Click here for more information.

We provide a wide range of Scuba Diving in Bunaken Manado Tua National Marine Park and other locations in North Sulawesi, Indonesia, which includes Bunaken Island, Siladen Island, Manado Tua Island, Mantehage Island, Nain Island, Manado Bay coastal areas, and Bangka Archipelago North Sulawesi – Indonesia.

Bunaken Divers team of dive guides are naturally very knowledgeable about their home reefs as most are from Bunaken, but it’s the care and special considerations regarding your specific needs within the scope of safe scuba diving that matters most. If you’re a diver with just 5 dives and prefer easy dives to get additional experience, or a professional underwater photographer who wants to shoot that Hippocampus Pontohi, we have a guide just right for you.

The type of guided scuba diving offered is typically a gentle to moderate drift dive from our dive boats along the many walls and slopes surrounding the islands and mainland. There are times and dive sites perfect for divers with not much experience or for dives of entry level courses where there is none to very little current, and at the other end of the scale for the experienced drift diver we have some exciting drift dive possibilities for the chance to spot the bigger pelagic fish and reef sharks.

Whether we are diving around Bunaken, Manado, or day excursions to other dive locations in North Sulawesi our groups generally consists of 2‑8 divers per boat. The level of scuba diving here is considered easy with none to gentle drift to difficult depending on surface conditions, currents and the layout of the dive site itself. Our dive team tailors the dives to level of experience and what the divers want to see and experience.

Best Time to Dive

You can dive year-round in Bunaken/Manado area even if there are waves from one direction there are plenty of dive sites on the protected sides of the islands and mainland. Most important is boats have to be in good condition and with fully maintained twin engines. All Bunaken Divers boats are spacious, in good condition, and with fully maintained twin engines, so are ready to handle the year-round diving conditions of the Bunaken Manado Tua Marine National Park.

Dry season is from April to November when the wind blows from south-east and the sea stays relatively calm. Visibility is normally 25 to 30m and sometimes even + 35m.

Wet season is normally December to March with cooler winds from north-west which can bring heavier rains and rougher seas. Visibility is around 15-20m during this time, but can occasionally drop to 10m. If you’re coming to visit the rainforest it is year-round, but we actually prefer the rainy season because that is when the forest and highlands are watered and are at their most lush.

Helpful Tips

Under Water Protection

Not too much thermal protection is required as the water temperature is between 27 and 30 C throughout the year however we suggest a 3mm or 5mm shorty or long wetsuit (or dive-skin for those who don’t get easily chilled on 60 to 70 minute dives).

Surface Protection

Waterproof sunscreen lotion and sun glasses for the day time.

Clothing

It’s normally shorts and T-shirt by day (even if it rains) and at night in the village the dress code is casual, nothing more than light trousers or jeans and a polo shirt.

Medications

There is no Malaria or Dengue Fever on Bunaken Island, but if you are traveling in other areas of Indonesia and Asia you may want to consider medications to prevent Malaria.
